Classic 1027 Launches Campaign to save Gauteng Opera

Classic 1027 has launched a fundraising campaign to Save Gauteng Opera from shutting down.

With funds having dried up, Gauteng Opera will host its final concert this Sunday….Unless money is found to save it.

Gauteng Opera’s Artistic Director, Phenye Modiane says after 18 years in operation and having produced some of the world’s best opera singers,

Gauteng Opera must raise R1 million by Sunday, 18th of March.

Gauteng Opera has in the years developed and trained over 150 singers, technical experts and arts administrators. It has managed to offer opera of the highest standard while investing in young talent.

To launch the campaign, Classic 1027 donated the first R50 000,00 and is challenging corporates to match or better this. The CEO of Classic 1027, Lyndon Johnstone, says it will be a travesty and a sad day for Opera and Music if this institution has to close its doors.

The proceeds of Sunday’s concert which features Sacred Songs at the Tin Town Theatre, will go toward funding Gauteng Opera.

Those who wish to be part of this funding can donate to:
