Meet the Team

Yolanda Nyembezi

Yolanda is a 23 year old female who was born in 1994 August 23 and raised in the Eastern Cape by parents Mr Masani (68) and Mrs Sindiwe Nyembezi (58). She is born as the 9th child out of 12 and her being the 3rd daughter out of 5.
She started singing at a Sunday School age at church in the Twelve Apostle’s Church in Christ. Later as she grew her love for music moved to school choirs and general interest in all genres of music which later influenced her flexibility in the art of singing.

With that said; after matriculating at Nongeke Senior Secondary School in the year 2011 her love for music had already grown immensely however her parents were not keen on her pursuing a career in the arts. For the two years she studied in Durban a course in Human Resources Management which she couldn’t complete due to financial exclusion.

It was then that in 2014 she decided to join Tshwane University of Technology and study Vocal Art. Ultimately; she had planned to study music the Vocal Art section chose her. Her enrolment with the institution was her first experience with opera music.

During the 4 years with the institution; she worked with Mr Mhlab’uhlangene Buthelezi as her vocal coach and did 2 opera roles (Dorabella – Cosi Fan Tutte [W.A Mozart]; Nanneta – Falstaff[Verdi] out of the 3 operas (the 3rd one being La Cenerantola [Rossini] she participated in. She also did 3 masses namely The Coronation Mass by Mozart, The Lord Nelson Mass by Joseph Haydn and lastly and Amandla Awethu by Qinisela Sibisi.

With a BTech in Vocal Pedagogy; she now serves as an intern at Gauteng Opera.
